I made Cave Graffiti in 2020 at my studio in Hoogstraten as part of the Signs of Hope/Symbols of Unity collection.

I used bottle caps, paper, metal lids, and acrylic paint on MDF. These modern, everyday materials aligned perfectly with my goal to connect the ancient with the present.

YES…

I’ve always been fascinated by cave drawings. They’re our ancestors’ first attempt at visual storytelling and creativity.

Cave Graffiti is my tribute to that raw, primal creativity. And is about reconnecting with our origins and remembering the power of simple, expressive art.

It took a lot of experimenting to get this piece right. In fact, this work went through so many different versions it reminded me of the fact that creativity is an ongoing process.

And that sometimes it takes a few tries to turn the perfect idea into something worthwhile.
