John, when did you make this?

I made this piece in 2024 at my studio in Hoogstraten as part of the INK collection.

Okay, cool John. But what materials did you use?

Ink and bister on paper.

Thanks John! Is there by any chance also a story behind the artwork?

YES…

I loved creating this Japanese ink drawing for three simple reasons 👇

One, because ink is such a simple material, I became a total minimalist. All of the sudden… every stroke mattered. And each line had a purpose.

Two, the way ink flowed across the paper… OH BOY. It created movement and emotion in a way nothing else can.

Three, the contrast of black on white is quiet but so powerful.

And on top of all that, creating with ink felt like a form of meditation to me. And calmed me down. So, in short… ink is THE BEST. And I’m excited to keep working with it in the future.
