I created this piece in 2022 as part of the ‘Precious Metals and Other Exquisite Waste’ collection

This artwork is made from bottle caps, drink cans, and acrylic paint on canvas. I used leftover material from a previous work, making this a “waste of the waste.”

YES…

My goal was to humanize the ‘refugees’ figures by adding color. I did this because I think most refugees aren’t treated fairly:

Society often stereotypes refugees and forgets they’re actual humans with pain and emotions. Which to me, is just inhumane.

So, I wanted to counter that and give them the dignity they deserve.

It’s the first work I created with a technique I call ‘Colorizing,’ where I inlay materials to form intricate patterns and designs.”

This makes each piece feel even more alive and unique.

And that’s why I plan to use this technique in the future a lot. So, stay tuned and check out my socials to see more works like this.
