John, when did you make this?

I made this piece in 2024 at my studio in Hoogstraten as part of the INK collection.

Okay, cool John. But what materials did you use?

Ink and bister on paper. Was also the first time I used white ink successfully!

Thanks John! Is there by any chance also a story behind the artwork?

OF COURSE…

I enjoyed creating this Japanese ink painting for three simple reasons 👇

Firstly, because ink is such a simple material. And turned me into a total minimalist. Suddenly… every brushstroke counted. And every line had a purpose.

Second, because of the way ink flowed across the paper. It created movement and emotion in a way that NO OTHER material could.

Third, the contrast of black on white. It’s quiet, yet so powerful.

And above all, creating with ink felt like a form of meditation to me. It brought me peace. In short… ink is THE BEST. And I can’t wait to continue working with it in the future.
